Movers in Lamesa

Lamesa at a glance

Lamesa is the seat of Dawson County, with 8,674 people at the 2020 census. It sits on the Llano Estacado south of Lubbock and north of Midland.

What that means for your move

Lamesa sits between Midland and Lubbock, so moves often head in either direction. Ask whether the mover is based in Midland or Lubbock, how travel time is charged and whether they can load and deliver on the same day. See long-distance moving.

A cotton town

Lamesa was founded in 1903, and most of its economy is based on cotton farming. Farm schedules matter when it comes to moving: harvest season is a busy time for families tied to the land. The town also has the Preston E. Smith state prison unit just outside it, and staff transfers mean regular moves in and out of the area.

Cold nights and hot days

Lamesa is known for summers that often top 100°F and winters with frequent freezes; temperatures drop below freezing on about 91 nights in an average year. Summer moves are best started early in the morning, while winter moves need care with icy steps and frozen ground. Wrap furniture well against cold and dust, and keep plants, electronics and anything temperature-sensitive in your own vehicle. See moving in West Texas heat.
