Packing Room by Room for a Midland Move
Packing goes fastest when you start with the rooms you use least and leave a few everyday essentials until the end.

Begin with guest rooms, storage areas, books, decorations and out-of-season clothes a couple of weeks before the move. Each box you pack early is one less on the last night.
Kitchen
Pack dishes on edge with paper between them, wrap glasses individually and use dish packs for fragile items. Leave out a few plates, cups and utensils for the last days.
Bedrooms and closets
Wardrobe boxes let clothes travel on hangers. Use suitcases for folded clothes and linens. Bag and label bed hardware and tape it to the frame.
Garage and shop
Drain fuel from mowers and tools, and dispose of paint, propane and chemicals safely, because movers can't carry them. Bundle long-handled tools together.
Labeling
Write the room and a short list of contents on two sides of each box, not the top. Number boxes and keep a list on your phone.
The first-night box
Pack sheets, towels, toiletries, medicines, chargers, a few tools, snacks and cleaning supplies in a box that travels with you. See packing services if you need help.
Bathrooms
Pack toiletries in sealed bags inside a box so nothing leaks onto other items. Keep a small bag of essentials for the first night, and throw away nearly empty bottles rather than moving them.
Living room and electronics
Take photos of the cables behind the TV and computer before unplugging them, then bag and label the cords. Pack electronics in their original boxes if you still have them, or wrap them well in blankets.
